Game of Throws Takes Flight: Week 1 In-Review

After a long road with many twists and turns, this week saw Discmania Game of Throws officially take flight with over 300 competitors making their historic first entries into the Great Book of Throws!  The stakes were high, with the House Lordships and House Rosters on the line, and everything went-off without a hitch, which says a lot about our fantastic group of League Directors – helmets-off to these fearless leaders who have braved the obscurities of our rules and regs and lived to tell the tale.

This week also saw the unveiling of the new Discmania Game of Throws website at www.gotdiscgolf.com where all of the League Information, Scores, and Standings will be displayed.  We are excited to see the inter-league competition commence with our virtual points standings courtesy of the PDGA – now Lizottes and McMahons, Perkinses  and Piironens, can face-off from across the globe!

Early results point to a dominant showing in the Pacific Northwest, with Lord Deane Phillips of House Lizotte (Bremerton, WA) and Lord Marshall Dunst of House Lizotte (Salem, OR) outpacing the competition, with only Baton Rouge’s House Piironen, led by returning Lord Simeon Schultz, cracking the top 7.  Lord Jonathan Houghton of House McMahon (Richmond City, VA) posted a high-water mark with a blistering 1026-rated opening round, and Lord Robert Crosby of House McMahon (Grand Ledge, MI) nabbed an event-best 79 points for his team.  You can check out all of the results and standings at www.gotdiscgolf.com/virtual-standings

Things can change fast beginning in week 2 when the first Knights are called to action!  Lords can Knight one player each week, and that player will get their point total doubled in both the local and virtual standings.  This means that if Lord Crosby were to defend his position atop the MA3 division while Knighted, he could bring home 158 points! That’s what we call a game-changer.  Lords are free to Knight themselves, but each player can serve as Knight only once during the GOT league series.

Also, big props to Baton Rouge for putting together a sweet week 1 highlight video!  We love seeing images from all over the realm, so get those cameras out and post ‘em where we can see them, and be on the look out for some highlight video contests in the near future.  Good luck to everyone hitting the course this week for the second round – you have your House, your team, your title, and now it’s time to carry the banner! May the throws be with you.
